Fans quickly fell in love with Lane Hutson. It's not just for his talent on the ice, but also for the kind of person he is in general.
The Montreal Canadiens' number 48 doesn't seem to be the loudest guy in the room and appears to be very reserved and discreet.
The Sheriff recounted the time Hutson apologized to an opponent after drawing a penalty.
Arber Xhekaj on his Habs teammate Lane Hutson:
"He said sorry when a guy took a penalty on him one time. I was like that's crazy, do not ever apologize to a single guy out there."
It's clear that Hutson is a gentleman.
As proof, his 40 hits in 82 games placed him near the bottom of the team in that category among players who played 20 or more games last season.
The defenseman clearly doesn't like hurting others, and Xhekaj's anecdote proved it.
It will be interesting to see if Hutson ever wins the Lady Byng Trophy, awarded to the NHL player who best combines sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct with a high standard of playing ability.
From what we've seen of him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him among the finalists for many years.
Xhekaj did well to kindly put him in his place.
Indeed, Hutson doesn't need to apologize to anyone on the ice!
