For the past few hours, an unflattering sequence involving Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson has been circulating online.

In the clip, you can see Dobson completely giving up on his defensive backcheck, dragging his feet, and practically allowing Auston Matthews to score his team's fourth goal (the insurance goal).
You can see the footage right here:
A backcheck that many judged to be absolutely unacceptable, including former Montreal Canadien and current BPM Sports host Gilbert Delorme, who criticized Dobson's effort.
"I didn't find Dobson good at all! I thought he was nonchalant the whole damn game!" - Gilbert Delorme

Following this sequence, the excellent Marco D'Amico gave what could be the real reason explaining Dobson's sluggish defensive effort.

Noah Dobson still dealing with a groin injury

That's what D'Amico revealed, coming to the defense of the Canadiens' new blueliner.
"Are you unaware that he has a groin injury?"

- Marco D'Amico
"Players play through injury all the time Brian, it's very normal; it's just that groin injuries are the type that linger and impact mobility.

Outside of that one play, he looked totally fine. But, for the next week or so, he won't have full stride mobility or power.

Dobson at 80% was still the best defenseman on the ice."

- Marco D'Amico
"Groin injury Patrick.

He tried the 2-3 pushes but didn't have the power to catch up with Matthews."

- Marco D'Amico
So that could explain it, but it's up to you to judge!
Dobson finished last night's game with a -1 rating, one shot on goal, and one blocked shot.. in nearly 23 minutes of ice time!
And you, what did you think of his performance?

Do you believe Noah Dobson's injury can excuse that disastrous defensive backcheck?
