More and more, it's becoming clear that Florian Xhekaj has quickly turned into a major acquisition for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
We can now say it with confidence.
The experts I respect the most always have incredibly positive things to say about him, and in the past few hours, the excellent TVA Sports journalist Nicolas Cloutier added even more praise.
Here's an excerpt from the testimonials he shared.
"I wanted Florian on my team so badly.
We couldn't sign him at the time, and he ended up joining the Bulldogs.
On the ice, you see a brute, but when I spoke with him, I was blown away by his understanding of the game and his analytical abilities. He's going to become a good player."
Those are some powerful comments, coming from OHL coaches and executives.
Florian Xhekaj truly appears to be a player of the future for the Montreal Canadiens
I was cautious at first, but I think I'm now fully sold on Arber's little brother.
Florian Xhekaj, 20 years old, has shown remarkable progress since being selected in the 4th round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
He jumped from 25 points in 68 OHL games (13 goals) to 65 points in 63 games (34 goals). He also scored 24 goals in 69 games in the AHL.
With the Laval Rocket this season, he tallied 24 goals and 11 assists for a total of 35 points in 69 games, along with 175 penalty minutes and a +10 rating.
For a rookie fourth-liner in the AHL, that's extremely impressive.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for him.
