Pierre McGuire Makes Bold Prediction for Canadiens' New Forward Joe Veleno
Let's talk a bit more about the most recent acquisition made by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens on offense.
In the last few hours, it was the excellent Pierre McGuire's turn to comment on the signing by Hughes and Jeff Gorton, and to say the least, he certainly knows how to raise expectations.
While many fans unfortunately criticized this signing - for reasons that completely escape me..
Pierre McGuire stepped in to set the record straight.
Montreal Canadiens Acquisition Joe Veleno Could Be a 45-Point Forward, Says Pierre McGuire
Even though Joe Veleno's career-high is only 28 points (in 2023-2024), McGuire seems to believe the Quebec native still has plenty of room to grow.
When asked by Tony Marinaro whether Veleno could be a 50-point player with a 50% faceoff win rate, here's how the expert responded:
"McGuire's answer is that 50 points is too much.
But if Veleno is used properly to produce, he doesn't rule out seeing him put up between 40 and 45 points this season.
He sees it as realistic."

45 points is just six shy of what
Juraj Slafkovsky posted last season (51), just to give you an idea.. so that's actually quite a big benchmark for Veleno to reach!
In any case, the potential seems to be there!
Let's not forget - he racked up 104 points in 59 games in his final junior season (at age 18).
