If Samuel Montembeault still had hope of achieving his dream of representing his country at the Olympic Games, he can clearly forget about it.
After being among the only three goaltenders invited by Team Canada to the preparation camp ahead of the Olympic Games (last August), when his spot seemed secured, the worst-case scenario is now starting to take shape for Montembeault.
He no longer seems to be in Team Canada's plans at all, and it's truly unfortunate.
Let's remember that Canada had invited only three goaltenders to its preparation camp (Montembeault, Jordan Binnington, and Adin Hill), so the decision seemed to be made. But no!

When asked about the topic, as he revealed his information regarding the goaltenders who will be considered by Team Canada for the Olympic Games, Elliotte Friedman mentioned a few names. But he never mentioned Sam Montembeault's name. He therefore clearly no longer seems to be in Canada's plans.
"Team Canada goaltending: Binnington's gonna be there and I think Logan Thompson's gonna be there; at the very least I'd be looking at [Scott Wedgewood] as someone, he can play behind a really good team."

It seems settled for Montembeault, and barring a huge surprise, his Olympic chances appear over.
His difficult start to the season has therefore been very damaging to his Olympic dream. Barring a huge surprise, we can therefore assume it's over for Samuel Montembeault and the Olympic Games.
He now seems to have been surpassed by several names, such as Scott Wedgewood, Logan Thompson, MacKenzie Blackwood, and even names like Jet Greaves and Adin Hill.
