We have a last-minute update, coming directly from journalist Darren Dreger and involving Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault.

We told you on Tuesday that this was a strong possibility, and now it appears to be the case, according to multiple reports.

Scott Wedgewood reportedly added to Hockey Canada's list to replace Samuel Montembeault

At least, that's what many are reporting.
I could say that things can still change quickly - because everything moves fast in the hockey world - but we're now only a few short weeks away from the final roster selection for Team Canada.
Unfortunately, even if Montembeault returns to playing at a very high level soon, he may run out of time (especially since Jakub Dobes is playing most of the games for the Canadiens right now).
We sadly have to face the facts.
Samuel Montembeault will most likely be replaced by Scott Wedgewood, and he will not represent Canada at the Olympics, even though he was almost guaranteed a spot last August.
It's truly unfortunate.
"Scott Wedgewood has been added to Canada's list for possible Olympic participation."

- Darren Dreger, TSN
Montembeault, 29, has a 4-5-1 record this season, with a 3.71 goals-against average and a .852 save percentage.
Wedgewood, 33, has a 13-1-2 record this season with the Avalanche, with a 2.09 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
In any case, as he himself recently mentioned, Samuel needs to stop thinking about the Olympics and simply focus on being the best goaltender he can be for the Montreal Canadiens.
Yes, the Olympics were a dream, but he has to move on.
Barring a major surprise, this case is closed for him and he will not represent Canada at Milano Cortina.
