When Logan Mailloux made his debut with the Laval Rocket, it was clear that he had offensive talent, but his defensive game left something to be desired. He had dominated at the junior level, but upon turning pro, he had to adjust quickly.

According to Pascal Vincent, this is a normal process.
He mentioned that Josh Morrissey took three years in the minors before becoming an established NHL defenseman.
For Mailloux, it will take as long as necessary.
He is well aware that his name has circulated in various trade rumors for multiple reasons, including concerns about his defensive game, but he made sure to send a clear message in response!

Logan Mailloux Responds to Trade Rumors

The encouraging part is that Mailloux has indeed focused heavily on improving his defense this season.
He said it himself:
"Last year, I was getting beat too easily because I wasn't moving my feet enough.

Now, I'm better at keeping up with opponents and shutting plays down."

Naturally, his offensive production has declined (29 points in 48 games compared to 47 points in 72 games last year).
According to him, it's a necessary sacrifice to become a more well-rounded defenseman.
Another positive: he's taking fewer penalties.
His penalty minutes dropped from 91 last season to 60 this year.
He says he still needs to find the right balance between physical play and discipline, but he's making progress.
Mailloux remains an intriguing prospect, but with the Canadiens' right side getting crowded with David Reinbacher, he will need to step up if he wants to secure a spot with the big club.
Could Kent Hughes still trade him this summer to acquire a second-line center?
It's possible, especially since the Canadiens already attempted to send him to the Ducks last year in a deal for Trevor Zegras.
Mailloux wants to earn his place in the NHL, but will it be with the Canadiens or elsewhere? Stay tuned..
