Kent Hughes Pulls Off Last-Minute Move to Keep Young Goalie in the Canadiens Organization
It's not surprising, given that he's a very savvy hockey man, but Hughes managed to change the plans and officially bring a young player back into the Canadiens organization.
Kent Hughes Succeeds in Keeping Quentin Miller in the Montreal Canadiens Organization
To recap, June 1st is an important date each year in the National Hockey League. It's the date when the rights to many prospects expire.
Just yesterday, over 40 prospects became free agents after being released by various NHL organizations.
That included one Canadiens prospect:
Originally, it was expected to include another Habs prospect as well.
According to the excellent Vincent Duquette, another prospect was also supposed to be signed by Kent Hughes before June 1st, 2025, or else be released, and that was goaltender Quentin Miller.
Miller was not signed before the June 1st, 2025 deadline, but not so fast..
Kent Hughes has in fact found a way to retain his rights, and Duquette has just confirmed it.
"I've been told that the Canadiens have retained the rights to Quebec goaltender Quentin Miller.
He was supposed to be signed before June 1st, 2025, but his rights will officially be extended."
- Vincent Duquette
We're very much looking forward to seeing his upcoming NCAA season.
