The Dallas Stars will have some major decisions to make in the coming weeks. This could even be an opportunity for Quebec-born forward Mavrik Bourque to get a change of scenery and leave the organization that drafted him 30th overall in the 2020 draft.

After once again falling short in the Western Conference Final, the Texas organization could look quite different next season.
Beyond the big salary increases expected for Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, and Jake Oettinger, many players will become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.
Jamie Benn, Matt Duchene, Evgenii Dadonov, Mikael Granlund, Colin Blackwell, Brendan Smith, and Cody Ceci could all exercise their rights and leave Dallas.
Among the main roster players, only Mavrik Bourque and Nils Lundkvist will be restricted free agents.
Speaking of Bourque, insider Chris Johnston recently revealed on a recent episode of The Chris Johnston Show that the Quebec native would be an excellent candidate to receive an offer sheet this summer.

Mavrik Bourque, a great option for the Montreal Canadiens via offer sheet

During his end-of-season press conference, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton mentioned that there will be more and more offer sheets around the NHL.
If Gorton is saying that, it likely means he and Kent Hughes are seriously evaluating their options.
You have to wonder if Mavrik Bourque's case might interest them?
A few months ago, the NHL released the compensation details for offer sheets this summer. Here they are:
Although Bourque played 73 games this season with the Stars, he was a healthy scratch during the playoffs.
He only suited up for 3 of the team's 18 postseason games.
Is that a sign of a lack of trust in the right-handed center?
It's a fair question.
At 23 years old, Bourque has played 74 NHL games and has tallied 25 points.
He does, however, have the perfect profile for the Hughes/Gorton duo, who are known for giving second chances to talented players.
The Quebec native has strong potential and could develop into a solid second-line center in the right environment.
A $4M contract, which would net the Stars a second-round pick in compensation, might be a good option.
In addition to that pick, Jim Nill would have the benefit of not needing to spend on Bourque, especially since his working budget is limited, reportedly under $5M, according to PuckPedia.
