Gesture by Patrik Laine Near Canadiens' Bench May Reveal Why St-Louis Benched Him
A hockey coaching expert may have just identified the real reason why Patrik Laine was punished by Martin St-Louis last night.
This is very interesting information.
Topher Scott pointed to a very specific sequence, a very specific gesture by Patrik Laine, that seems to have been the final straw.
It really seems like it pushed Martin St-Louis' patience over the edge.
Here's an excerpt of his explanation, but in short, it's a gesture made by Laine (right near the Canadiens' bench) that directly led to the Washington Capitals' game-winning goal.
A Very Poor Decision by Patrik Laine Before the Capitals' Second Goal
Scott explains it as follows.
COACHES: One of the most underrated traits of winning hockey is great line changes. It's so incredibly important, and last night we had two game winning goals directly impacted by them.
1. Montreal turns it over in the neutral zone and Patrik Laine changes. The puck gets transitioned right where he should be but since he gets off it creates the passing lane and the Caps feed their transition game.
Anderson can't catch up after he gets off the ice which allows the time for a delay on the rush and BOOM - game winner for Washington. This play may be part of the reason Laine didn't play in the third period."
It's really interesting! There's even a video to back it up.
The point here isn't to pile on Laine, but this was definitely an important sequence to highlight, especially since it didn't come from a fan or an expert who only follows the Montreal Canadiens.
So, we can add this.. to this:
In your opinion, knowing all this, should Patrik Laine be sent to the press box tomorrow night?
