Contrary to what had been announced a few weeks ago, it would now be confirmed for Cole Caufield, Tage Thompson, and Luke Hughes.
The Montreal Canadiens forward would have changed his mind and finally agreed to join Team USA at the end of the season to participate in the World Hockey Championship. (with the agreement of Kent Hughes)
Kent Hughes would agree to let Cole Caufield go to the worlds
It is recalled that the general manager of Team USA, Bill Guerin, believes that a player who wants to participate in the major Four Nations tournament, or the Olympics, would benefit from not saying no to the United States this spring.
By joining the United States team in a few weeks, Caufield would therefore increase his chances of being chosen to represent his country at the Four Nations tournament as well as at the Olympics.
"The other players who should represent the United States at the upcoming world championships include Johnny Gaudreau, Cole Caufield, Tage Thompson, Luke Hughes, Shane Pinto, plus the names I reported yesterday, which included Brady Tkachuk, Seth Jones, and Trevor Zegras."

Caufield, 23 years old, has collected 62 points in 79 games this season with the Tricolore, including 25 goals. He is having a great end to the season alongside Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky.
