We just received an important announcement involving a well-liked goaltender within the Montreal Canadiens organization.

We suspected it was coming, but it's a big surprise to see it announced right in the middle of the Laval Rocket's playoff run.
In short, Connor Hughes, who began the year as the Canadiens' number four goalie and held a valid NHL contract, is officially leaving the organization.

It's over for Connor Hughes with the Montreal Canadiens organization

It's indeed very rare to see something like this, but in the middle of the Laval Rocket's playoff series, the announcement has just been made.
"AHL-Laval goaltender Connor Hughes is returning to Lausanne HC (Swiss NL) on a five-year (!?) contract beginning in 2025-26.

Hughes went 15-12-2 in 29GP in his first season of pro hockey in North America with Laval this year with a 2.58 GAA, .905 SV% and 2 SO."

Goaltender for the Rocket Laval, Connor Hughes, has signed a contract in the Swiss league with Lausanne HC, a 5-year deal!

Kind of strange that he's already signed an agreement while the Rocket are still alive and Hughes' current contract is still active..
Based on the comments, it's clear Hughes was very appreciated within the organization and by the fans.
We join those many voices in congratulating Hughes, wishing him all the best, and thanking him for his season with the Canadiens family.
The Laval Rocket will now continue their playoff run with a goalie duo of Jacob Fowler and Cayden Primeau.
It's incredible how quickly things can change.
When Jakub Dobes was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens (and Cayden Primeau was reassigned to Laval), some believed Connor Hughes might have been the one called up by Kent Hughes.
He truly had an outstanding start to the season with the Rocket - and yes, he was under contract with the Montreal Canadiens (he held a valid NHL deal).
In short, we now know how the story continues!
