We've had some NHL waiver action in the last few hours, and two players have just become available to the Montreal Canadiens.
We're talking about defenseman
Troy Stecher, placed on NHL waivers by the Edmonton Oilers, and centerman
David Kampf, placed on NHL waivers earlier by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kampf wasn't claimed yesterday and is now a free agent.
Could the Canadiens sign centre David Kampf to plug their hole down the middle?
That's what several sources believe.
Elliotte Friedman added to it as well:
Elliotte Friedman on David Kampf: "I definitely believe Vancouver is in on this; someone mentioned Pittsburgh to me; I also just wonder about Montreal; I don't know if [Montreal] would be the favourite - 32 Thoughts"
So we now have Kampf becoming a free agent, and we have Stecher currently on NHL waivers.
David Kampf is officially an unrestricted free agent. The former Leafs forward cleared unconditional waivers today and has had his contract terminated.

This will be a situation to watch closely in the coming hours, especially since, according to Johnston and Friedman, the Montreal Canadiens are clearly involved in this file.
