The verdict has officially come down, Rem Pitlick was not claimed and is officially headed to the American Hockey League.
He remains on the CH roster and will play for the Laval Rocket.
Many fans were surprised to see that Pitlick was ignored by the 31 other NHL teams especially considering his interesting production last season.
Pitlick, 25, had 26 points in 46 games last season in Montreal, a pace of almost 50 points per 82 games (no points this season).
So why was he ignored?
Renaud Lavoie has the explanations:
"As I mentioned last night at JiC, it's very rare that teams claim a player on waivers who still has another year (minimum) on his contract. Rem Pitlick will have a chance to rebuild his confidence in Laval."
So this might explain it. Do you think Pitlick will dominate in Laval? In his most recent AHL appearance, he had 10 points in 8 games.
"Rem Pitlick was not claimed from waivers. Knowing how much CH management wants nothing to do with losing an asset without extracting any value, they must have known that the next year on Pitlick's contract would discourage other teams from claiming him." - Marc Antoine Godin
