A few days ago, we thought that Kent Hughes absolutely had to deal in order to get Kirby Dach and Cayden Primeau. Even after acquiring Sean Monahan and his 6.375 million salary, for nothing, the GM now has the room to sign his two players, but he will have to thank Carey Price.

As Habsolumentfan reminds us, Price's arrival on the long-term injured list completely changes the game of the CH's contract situation. It will bring unexpected but very welcome contractual flexibility for Hughes.
This is a big turnaround for him.
The excellent CapFriendly was kind enough to unravel the whole thing, and we learn that the CH now has $4.373 million in play. This one could grow even more if forward Paul Byron and his $3.4 million join Price on the long-term injury list in the coming weeks. In this circumstance, the GM would have nearly 7.77 million in space to improve his club.
So there is no rush to trade a salary when the collective agreement takes care of the salary issue. A transaction will only take place if it gives a plus to the club, as Hughes often mentions since his arrival at the head of the CH.
So other than the Dach and Primeau signings, don't expect any big moves from the CH between now and the opening of training camp. Unless Hughes is able to acquire an experienced defenseman by then...
