Two veterans may leave ship very soon in Montreal

Even if they do not intend to begin a complete rebuild, it is likely that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will be divesting themselves of several veterans in the coming months.
According to Tony Marinaro, Carey Price and Jeff Petry could be among the first names to be shown the way out, as he explained during his Sick Podcast, with François Gagnon.
Marinaro even floated the idea that the CH could emulate the Minnesota Wild's strategy by buying back the two veterans' contract, as Bill Guerin had done with Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
«I don't know if that's the path they're going to take with Carey Price and Jeff Petry, but the Price and Petrys of this world are big contracts that are hard to trade during the season,» Marinaro said.
With four more seasons left in Price's massive contract, a buy-out could hurt the Canadiens more than it needs to. A trade would therefore be more realistic in his case and the same applies to Petry.
In summary, although each of these two avenues is difficult to pursue, Price and Petry should soon have to move on to the next stage of their careers in a new team.
