Before the start of the regular schedule, Auston Matthews sent a subtle message to the Leafs by mentioning his wish that they imitate the Arizona Coyotes regarding the dress code. As a reminder, Andre Tourigny is installing a new culture in Arizona and he has started this change by abolishing the requirement to wear a suit on game days.
In an interview, Matthews, who is originally from Arizona, made no secret of the fact that it would be "cool" if the Leafs allowed their players to dress more casually during games... and this request was well heard by the organization.
So the Leafs, one of the original six National Hockey League teams, become the 2nd franchise to allow more casual attire on game days. Matthews, who loves fashion, is certainly thrilled with this timely change. After all, it's 2021, right?
