Jordan Martinook (CAR)Anton Khudobin (DAL)Mattias Janmark (EDM)Dmitri Samorukov (EDM)Andreas Johnson (NJ)Martin Frk (STL)Klim Kostin (STL)Justin Dowling (VAN)Johnathan Kovacevic (WPG).
One of the surprises is veteran Martinook, who was not expecting to be placed on waivers. The Hurricanes' general manager admitted that it was a heartbreaking decision.
There's also goalie Anton Khudobin, who was probably the best "1B" goalie in the NHL from 2018-2020. (0.923% and 0.930% efficiency rate) Khudobin is also known for his masterful performance in the 2020 playoffs, leading his team to the Stanley Cup Final. He is finally back to health.
Janmark had 25 points (9 goals) in 67 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season.
Johnsson, 27, was once seen as a future 70+ point winger in the NHL after 78 point (AHL) and almost 50 point (NHL) seasons at the age of only 22. Injuries eventually slowed him down, but he still started last season with 17 points in his first 17 games with the New Jersey Devils (35 points in 71 games overall).
Frk scored 40 goals, and recorded 73 points (!), in just 58 AHL games in 2021-22. He scored two goals in six games with the Los Angeles Kings.
And Kostin, 23, was drafted with the 31st overall pick in 2017 (first round) by the St. Louis Blues. He is a big center, who can play wing, at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He has 5 goals and 11 points in the NHL.
Do you think any of the following names would tempt Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, as the Montreal Canadiens have first pick from waivers.
