At a press conference earlier today, immediately after his team's practice and before flying to Washington, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis commented for the first time on the trade of Sean Monahan (to the Winnipeg Jets).

We've been talking about it for a few days, but yes, it has created a huge gap in the CH's offense, and it really complicates St-Louis's job.

According to many, he now has the worst line of centers in the entire NHL, with Nick Suzuki, Jake Evans, Lucas Condotta, and possibly Brandon Gignac.

A phone call from Kent Hughes that disappointed Martin St-Louis

The Canadiens coach admitted that, even though he absolutely understands why the trade was made, he was really disappointed (like all of us) when Kent Hughes called him to announce the news.

He understands the situation, but he is still very disappointed.

"Martin St-Louis says that even though he understood there was a possibility that Sean Monahan could be traded, he was still very disappointed when it actually happened last Friday." - Via Priyanta Emrith

And we understand him! It's definitely a trade that reduces the CH's chances of winning a good number of games to finish the campaign.

St-Louis would not have minded having Monahan in his lineup for at least another full month, let's say. He will have to cling to the hope of re-signing him this summer as a free agent.
