Kent Hughes took a rather bold gamble in making his acquisition, as Monahan has been plagued by numerous injuries over the past few years and had his worst career season in 2021-2022 with 23 points in 65 games, including only eight goals.
He later had to forfeit the playoffs with a hip injury but last I heard Monahan was feeling good and even his former GM in Calgary, Brad Treliving, recently mentioned that he was 100% recovered. This bodes well for the future.
As reported by J.B. Gagné of GoHabsGo.com, the Habs' new forward, who will wear No. 91 this season, was on the brand-new BPM Sports with host Anthony Marcotte, and let's just say Monahan has a clear goal for the start of the upcoming season.
Let's just say that his intentions are pretty clear regarding his arrival with the Habs. During the interview with Marcotte, Monahan also mentioned that he expected the Flames management to trade him to another team during the summer but he did not expect to end up with the Habs at all.
With the addition of Monahan as a center, Habs head coach Martin St. Louis will have a nice headache at that position when the team's training camp opens in September. With Suzuki, Dvorak, Dach, Evans and now Monahan, there could very well be one too many centers in the organization.
Will Kent Hughes make a trade soon? It's quite possible, as he has stated that he would like to bring an additional right-handed defenseman to the team. It remains to be seen who will be sacrificed by the organization, if there is a trade...
