Return to the NHL? Last-minute statement from Patrick Roy
Present at the Serge Savard Invitation, a golf tournament at Mirage, the exceptional Patrick Roy agreed to make a statement about his potential surprise return behind an NHL bench as a head coach.
The topic of the Ottawa Senators also came up.
Now that Michael Andlauer is the new owner of the Sens, Roy's name is resurfacing more than ever. We know of his immense respect for the former #33.
D.J. Smith has never led his team to the playoffs in four seasons. So if the Sens were to show him the door, Roy would be an interesting candidate.
Of course, if the phone rings, we'll listen, but for now, they have people in place who are doing an excellent job.
And working in the capital, is that something Roy is interested in?
Ottawa is a beautiful hockey city, just like everywhere else.
Via an article from TVA Sports.
Clearly, Coach Smith won't have much leeway if the Sens don't have a strong season, and the logical candidate to replace him is undoubtedly Roy.
In his responses, Patrick Roy is cautious, but he is clearly open to offers «if his phone rings». We love it!
A story to follow and a saga to keep in mind if Ottawa doesn't play up to expectations in a few weeks.
Would you be happy if it came to fruition?
