Phillip Danault declared, first of all, that before his famous signing with the Kings, he knew for a long time that he was probably not going to come back to Montreal and that his career with the Habs was over, simply because Marc Bergevin didn't want to do it anymore (the offers weren't even close to being enough). The 2021 playoffs were therefore, for him, "his last lap".
Danault really expected to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights, and he was about to make a deal with Vegas, but the Kings came out (almost out of nowhere) with an aggressive offer and won the derby, as we know today.
The Quebecer did not regret his choice, as he scored 27 goals and 51 points in 79 games in his first season with the Kings, playing most of the time on the second line of his team.
