In the last few hours, the Pittsburgh Penguins have revealed what is clearly the likely lineup to start the new National Hockey League season, and Montreal Canadiens fans are commenting in droves.
Obviously, we were curious to see where Ryan Poehling and Jeff Petry would fit in the lineup.
Check out the results:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Heinen-Carter-Kapanen
McGinn-Poehling/Poulin-Archibald
Defensemen:
Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Petry
Smith-Rutta
Joseph/Ruhwedel/Friedman
Remember, of course, that last July, the CH traded defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Quebec defenseman Mike Matheson and a fourth-round pick in 2023.
This leaves Poehling in contention for the Penguins' fourth center position, but Poulin would have the upper hand according to reporters who follow Pittsburgh closely. Even if Poehling starts the season, because Poulin doesn't have to go through waivers, that could change quickly.
Poehling could be out of the Penguins' lineup soon. Stay tuned!
As for Petry, he lines up on the second pair of defensemen, along with defensive defenseman Marcus Pettersson. He also gets minutes on the second pair of defensemen.
It will be interesting to see how the two former Habs will fare in Pittsburgh this season.
