In the next few weeks, it will be six years since the Habs completed what is probably their biggest transaction in the last ten years.
On June 29, 2016, Marc Bergevin sent his star defenseman P.K. Subban to the Nashville Predators in exchange for another star defenseman, a certain Shea Weber.
With some hindsight, we can still say that this transaction was good for both organizations as they managed to reach the Stanley Cup finals, in 2017 for the Predators and last year for the Habs.
While it is becoming increasingly clear that Shea Weber will no longer play in the NHL, Subban will become an uncompensated free agent this summer.
"If he doesn't cost much why not, for a gift to the fans maybe, we would need that next year, we agree, unless we make major acquisitions. If he asks for a big salary, that's a no, there's no way, that's still the plan, that's the rebuild."
But not everyone agreed with Lapierre. Present on the same set during the show L'après-match on TVA Sports, Jacques Martin and Alexandre Picard were not very enthusiastic about the idea of seeing Subban in Montreal.
