There was some movement in the Montreal Canadiens organization tonight. Jeff Gorton has been linked to the Habs for a possible position and Scott Mellanby has stepped down. It's moving!

Details here:
What was revealed about the discussions between Scott Mellanby and Geoff Molson is that they talked for several days before coming to a conclusion.
"This is a process that didn't start 24 hours ago. What I'm told is that Scott Mellanby met in the last few days. Several offers were made to him. Geoff Molson wanted to see exactly what his plan was for the next step. Would Scott Mellanby be named interim general manager until the next candidate was named? Would he oversee the hiring process of the next candidate while remaining with the team in a President of Hockey Operations capacity?
Another really important detail surfaced about the potential position Jeff Gorton could have in Montreal. This may reassure many in the province of Quebec.
"What I'm told in the case of Jeff Gorton, because obviously he's been identified with the Montreal Canadiens, the title of president of hockey operations is not necessarily associated with his role. However, what is 100% certain is that he will not be general manager. The day we announce the departure of Marc Bergevin, the next general manager will speak French."
It's been an eventful night around town, but the biggest story is yet to come, as we don't know what the ultimate outcome of general manager Marc Bergevin will be.
Who will be the next general manager? One thing is for sure, he will speak french!
