Insider Andy Strickland just dropped a bomb via his Twitter account. The assistant general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Scott Mellanby, would have effectively ended his association with the organization!
In office since May 2012, Mellanby will have accompanied the team's GM, Marc Bergevin, during most of his mandate with the Tricolore. The reasons for this decision have not yet been revealed.
This news follows reports that the CH is in advanced discussions with former New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton, who left the New York organization last May.
Initially thought to be the president of hockey operations, Gorton could become Mellanby's successor, or perhaps even the interim general manager, if Bergevin gets fired eventually.
One thing is certain, things are moving within the organization and the next few hours could mark a turning point in the team's future.
