During the 2021 draft, the selection of Logan Mailloux by the Canadians in the first round caused a lot of talk. The young prospect was in hot water due to a history of sexual misconduct, which happened in Sweden in the fall of 2020, and despite the fact that he had advised all teams not to select him, Marc Bergevin still chose him with the 31st pick.

But since then, there have been several changes within the organization of the Canadiens and Mailloux made a return to play at the beginning of January in the Ontario Junior League. He looked very good with the London Knights before being injured lately.

Despite that, veteran journalist Jack Todd, who covers the activities of the Canadiens for the newspaper The Gazette, believes that Kent Hughes must trade the rights of the young defender, and this as soon as possible.

Todd maintains that Mailloux is the biggest hot potato in the Canadiens pipeline right now and that the Canadiens should never have drafted him.

According to Todd, Mailloux is a youngster who made a mistake, yes, but he should have the chance to have another organization give his career a boost and Kent Hughes must trade him before the next training camp.

Todd is even ready to let Mailloux go for absolutely nothing. An obviously controversial proposition.

Many will say that he is going a bit too far with this last remark. Since he still hasn't signed a professional contract with the Canadiens, Mailloux could return to the 2023 draft, or become a free agent if he fails to reach an agreement with the organization.
