The head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, sent a strong message to the media and some journalists yesterday during a press conference.
A must-watch, starting from the 21st minute.
He seems a bit taken aback and out of patience with the media and journalists who tend to focus too much on the negative (rather than the positive).
Martin St-Louis mentions that he sees a lot of positives and that the media's negative attitude is unfortunate. He understands that negativity is part of the job, but this is too much.
"You [the media] focus more on the negative, on what needs to be corrected. [...] Besides, in the dictionary, there are four negative words for every positive word."
Martin St-Louis
"You made a big deal (about the power play issues). Anyway, more than us. There have only been four games played this season. But it sure feels good."
Cole Caufield
Clearly, Caufield agrees with his coach and also evidently believes that the negative attitude of some media is "exaggerated."
Going back to Martin St-Louis, when questioned more deeply about his comments regarding
Nick Suzuki, he made it very clear that he will never use the media to send a message to a player.
"It's between me and Suzuki, to be honest, Arpon. Thank you."
Martin St-Louis
It will be interesting to see if this will help, or not, to change the narrative.
