Carey Price's future with the Montreal Canadiens organization is nebulous, to say the least. As it has been too often in the past few years, there is a mystery surrounding the goaltender.
Should he not return to the game this season, for the first time in a decade, a number one goaltender position could open up in Montreal. This opens the door to a starting spot with the Montreal organization, a perfect position for a veteran goalie.
Speaking of veteran goaltenders, Marc-Andre Fleury will be an uncompensated free agent this summer. The main interested party admitted to Jean-François Téotonio of La Presse that the CH "could be an option".
However, we must be careful here, Fleury immediately followed up with this:
"But it's not yet. Carey is done for the season. I hope he's decent to come back next season." - Marc-Andre Fleury
The Quebec goalie, who is now 37 years old, admitted that he wants to play at least one more season in the NHL. He will choose his next destination on a very specific criterion, which is his family.
"It was hard leaving Vegas," he says of his three children. They had made friends in elementary school. Then we move to Chicago. Same thing. At the end of the year, they're still crying, losing their friends, losing their school. If we could have some stability, it would be nice."
"I want to take my time [to make a decision]. But at the same time, it can't be too long because once I sign in another city, I have to find a house, a school. We have to find the perfect place for us." - Marc-Andre Fleury
According to what the veteran mentions, he knows very well that he will no longer be able to have 60-65 starts in a season. So he wouldn't say no to sharing the net with another goalie. It would be perfect in Montreal with Jake Allen while Cayden Primeau is still learning in the AHL.
The only problem if Hughes ever wanted to bring Fleury to town would be the goalie's thirst for victory. We agree that the CH's next season will be a tough one...
"A place where I could win games is always more fun," he says with a smile. I loved my time in Chicago. [...] But it's hard sometimes to lose so much, to lose so often. It's tough on the morale." - Marc-Andre Fleury
If Carey Price doesn't come back to Montreal, would you like to put on the Blue White and Red uniform next year?
"That could be an option!
- Marc-Andre Fleury
To fan the flames of doubt, he ended the conversation, with his eternal smile, by saying that he had "not yet" spoken to the CH DG...
