Stamkos and the Montreal Canadiens
Therrien did reveal that the Habs, led by Marc Bergevin, made a serious attempt to bring Steven Stamkos to Montreal.
They launched a big "charm operation", as Stamkos was going to become an uncompensated free agent player. (in 2016)
As you know, the CH leaders had really hoped to sign Stamkos, but finally, on June 29, 2016, he signed an 8-season contract ($8.5 million per year) with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Ironically, Stamkos signed with Tampa Bay on the exact same day that the Montreal Canadiens famously traded PK Subban to the Nashville Preds for Shea Weber.
See what Therrien had to say:
The latter also added that he had every intention of using Stamkos in a scoring and leadership role.
Really interesting.
Stamkos, 32, has a very solid 57 points, including 24 goals, in 48 games this season (106 points last season). He has 505 goals, and 1029 points, in 970 career NHL games. What a player!
