Major development to come for the Montreal Canadiens: Evgenii Dadonov placed on waivers this week?
We talked about it in the last few hours, the imminent return to the game of Mike Matheson seems to be confirmed, he was already back at practice today, wearing a non-contact jersey.
He could be playing as early as this week, which is much sooner than expected. We love it.On the other hand, it precipitates another big decision Kent Hughes will have to make. The general manager will have to create a roster spot, to insert Matheson.
During his segment "La mise en échec" on TVA Sports' Jean-Charles Lajoie show, journalist Renaud Lavoie made a very interesting statement.
He expects Evgenii Dadonov to be the one to take the loss:
"Renaud made it clear that he (Dadonov) could be placed on waivers, and this, as early as next week." - TVA Sports
Lavoie then adds this:
"Mike Hoffman? He's not going to be waived and we know that, it's going to be hard to trade his contract. Jonathan Drouin? I don't think we'll put him on waivers either. So we have to go back to Evgenii Dadonov. Dadonov still doesn't have a point and we don't feel he's a threat. So, that becomes your ideal candidate if you decide to place a player on waivers."
"I'm not saying it's going to happen 100 percent because there's a lot of things that can happen, but..." - Renaud Lavoie

In any case, the tipster seems confident that Kent Hughes and Martin St. Louis will opt for a thirteen forward, eight defenseman lineup.
"People might think that the CH will give up a defenseman to the AHL, but that won't be the case."
So it's obviously a forward who's going to get scooped up. Interesting!
So we can visibly forget the idea of Chris Wideman being placed on waivers. Finally, we also learn here that Juraj Slafkovsky and Arber Xhekaj would be spared. They will stay with the CH.
One thing is for sure, this will be a major development to watch this week.
