According to the excellent Darren Dreger (TSN), forward Pierre-Luc Dubois has surprisingly accepted the qualifying offer from the Winnipeg Jets.
He has signed a one-season, $6 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets.
What does this mean for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens? This is great news, because Dubois has obviously eliminated any possibility of signing with Winnipeg in the long term.
He waited until the last second, at the deadline, to accept the offer, having refused to go to salary arbitration.
He didn't have a choice and clearly, this says a lot about the very difficult relationship between Dubois and the Jets' management. It seems to confirm that his days in Winnipeg are numbered.
The Quebec forward clearly did not want to negotiate with the Jets, and instead chose to move closer to complete autonomy and therefore, to Montreal.
Plus, it buys Kent Hughes time to negotiate. This news is very positive for Habs fans who want to see Dubois come to town.
