According to what the excellent journalist Arpon Basu just reported in his article of the day, Kent Hughes had a serious meeting with forward Josh Anderson in anticipation of the NHL trade deadline.

As you know, we're talking about a player who is rumored and in demand. Other teams around the league love his profile as a tough player who can score big goals.
He could bring a lot to the playoffs.
Anderson knows his future in Montreal is uncertain.
By the way, Anderson is well aware that his name is floating around a lot in trade rumors, and so is Kent Hughes.
In this regard, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens has made quite a gesture towards his player. Anderson confirmed that Hughes called him in his office for a meeting to discuss the various rumors:
"To be honest with you, I think it's really cool that he called me into his office and we had an honest conversation."

It's really rare that you see that coming from a GM and it's a credit to Kent Hughes. Lou Lamoriello wouldn't do that, let's say.
In short, GM Hughes reportedly told Anderson that some rumors are unfounded, others are. On the other hand, Hughes could not confirm to Anderson that he will not be traded this month.
"But Anderson has not been able to get confirmation that he is in town to stay." - Charles-Alexis Brisebois

He loves playing in Montreal, but he understands the circumstances.
Anderson, 28, has 19 points (14 goals) in 49 games this season with the Tricolore. He earns $5.5 million per year through 2027.
Would you trade him for a 2023 first round pick?
