Major Acquisition: It Has Been Confirmed That Kent Hughes' Genius Pick Late in the 2023 Draft Will Be Joining the Organization
During the most recent NHL draft, there was a lot of talk about the fact that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens did not want to take the gamble with Matvei Michkov.
When you acquire a player like that, there is always the risk that you might never be able to get your hands on him and that he stays in his native country.
However, even though the CH did not take the gamble with Michkov, they made a similar bet later in that same 2023 selection session.
With the 110th overall pick, the Canadiens selected Bogdan Konyushkov, a right-handed defenseman who plays in the KHL.
He slipped far in the draft because, like Michkov, teams were afraid of never being able to get their hands on him.
And well great news this morning, courtesy of Nicolas Cloutier.
Konyushkov will play in the NHL and he will arrive in North America with the Montreal Canadiens!
"CH prospect Bogdan Konyushkov will play in the NHL. And "soon".
The GM of Torpedo in the KHL confirmed to me over the phone that he has no intention of retaining the defender in Russia once his contract is over. "
- Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports
Wow, boom! This is excellent news and it looks like Kent Hughes has won his bet.
We are talking about a defender who has accumulated a very solid 22 points in 50 games, who plays very big minutes in his 20-year-old season in the KHL, and who even participated in the All-Star Game.
And he is right-handed! Not bad at all for a 110th overall pick.
