While it's pretty quiet right now for the Montreal Canadiens on the day of the NHL trade deadline, we wanted to take a look at a few trade proposals made by fans and analyzed by the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin.
With the departures of
Tyler Toffoli and
Ben Chiarot, many field hockey fans are wondering who will be the next player to be traded by Kent Hughes in the coming hours.
For the occasion, Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, of Danslescoulisses.com, asked Internet users to suggest some potential trades that the Habs could make between now and 3 p.m.
We had told you about this possibility of the Penguins forward joining the Habs. Several sources say he would be on his way out of Pittsburgh and on top of that, his brother, Oliver, was drafted by the CH in 2021 and a change of scenery could do him good. As for Hoffman, he could be a great option for the Penguins' power play.
Lehkonen's name has often been linked to the Rangers in recent weeks, and according to several pundits, Kent Hughes could get a first round pick for his services. I have to admit that this proposal makes sense because Lundkvist was selected by Jeff Gorton and the Habs have already acquired two first round picks in the Chiarot and Toffoli trades.
Some rumors are sending the Habs forward to join former teammate Tyler Toffoli in Alberta, but this would be a way to get rid of Dvorak's contract, which is still valid until the end of the 2024-2025 season. As for Monahan, he is a shadow of his former self this season and will become an uncompensated free agent in the summer of 2023. I don't see how Kent Hughes would consider this proposal.
Here's a proposal I like and it makes sense. The Predators need backup on the right side of the defense and Petry would be the perfect candidate for them. His play has become scrappy again in the last few games and it's becoming increasingly clear that he won't be back next year. As for L'Heureux, a first round pick in 2021, he's having a great season with Halifax in the QMJHL and failing to get
Jakob Pelletier, Kent Hughes could get back on track with L'Heureux.
In the end, we won't dwell too much on this proposal, as it is clearly the least likely and realistic of the bunch. In addition, Drouin will make a return to the game on Saturday against the Senators and we are all very anxious to see him finally under Martin St-Louis. Will he have the same effect on the Quebec forward that he had on
Cole Caufield?
As you can see, these were suggestions from some people on the internet, but still, it gives us an idea of the value that some Canadiens players can have throughout the NHL.
Could one of these proposals really happen? We'll have the answer by 3pm.
