It's all well and good that Sean Monahan was traded, but one point that hasn't been talked about enough today following this transaction is the huge gap it creates in Martin St-Louis's lineup.
The Canadiens already had a big need at the center position, and now that Monahan is gone, it's even worse!
Transaction announced today with WPG: who will replace Sean Monahan at center?
This was the question on many people's minds, especially since
Nick Suzuki and
Jake Evans can't play 35 minutes a game.
In a press conference earlier today, Kent Hughes spoke out and responded.
"Regarding the gap left at center by Sean Monahan's departure, Kent Hughes talks about the upcoming return of
Alex Newhook.
Also, the auditions of
Mitchell Stephens and
Lucas Condotta for the 4th line were conclusive. So, possible call-up in the coming days."

Wow! The Habs' plan is thus for Alex Newhook to eventually take Sean Monahan's role, who should be coming back to play soon.
This is excellent news slipped by Hughes!
Newhook will clearly have very big responsibilities upon his return to play, and let's hope it's enough because it would not be ideal to rely on players like Stephens and Condotta. (even if Kent Hughes seems to believe in them)
Do you think it's a good plan?
