Admittedly, the loss of Danault, combined with the absence of Carey Price and Shea Weber, is hurting the Habs, who are having a miserable season. But as for the Quebec forward, everything is going well for him under the hot California sun.
With his 21 goals in 65 games this season, he has already reached a new career high and is heading straight for a 25-goal, 50+ point season. And that's not all!
As reported by Marco Normandin of Habsolumentfan.com, after seeing defenseman Drew Doughty go down with a long-term injury, the Kings made the decision to name Danault an assistant captain in his absence.
A move that speaks volumes about his impact on the team.
The Kings are one of the surprises of this year's NHL season. The California team is second in the Pacific Division behind the Calgary Flames and the team led by Todd McLellan is headed straight for the playoffs.
Last summer, Danault signed a six-year free agent contract with the Los Angeles Kings for $33 million. He left the Habs after spending five full seasons with them.
And to think that there was only $500,000 a year between Danault and the Habs to sign a new deal.
