Since taking over the Montreal Canadiens, general manager Kent Hughes has not hesitated to make important trades, and we can certainly expect a new transaction eventually.
In an interview with Anthony Martineau on Friday, Hughes himself admitted that he is currently in discussions.
Considering the following:
- Kent Hughes has already completed a trade with the Florida Panthers
- Kent Hughes is active on the trade market
- The Panthers want to add a good established player
- Kent Hughes tends to target highly promising prospects in his trades who no longer seem to be in the plans of their current team.

Considering the above, an interesting trade proposal has surfaced between Montreal and Florida.
Panthers GM Bill Zito is likely to be active in the trade market quickly to help his team move up the standings.
According to the very knowledgeable Frank Seravalli, the Panthers may decide to trade one of their brightest prospects.
"After seeing Montreal select
Jesperi Kotkaniemi with the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, the Panthers would turn their attention to Grigori Denisenko in the middle of the first round, at #15." - Cimon Asselin
Denisenko failed to crack the Panthers' roster, despite performing well in the American Hockey League.
Denisenko, 22, has four points in eight career NHL games and has already been compared to
Nikita Kucherov, but he's still waiting for a real opportunity.
Could he be a prime target on the trade market for the Montreal Canadiens? Could Kent Hughes offer a veteran (to the Panthers) in exchange for Denisenko?
It's an interesting suggestion and a name to remember.
