The Habs' number one goaltender has returned to training with the team in recent days and if he can play a few games between now and the end of the season, the new team staff will be able to better evaluate him for next season, which will be the first full season of the Hughes-Gorton era.
With the trade deadline now in the past and Jake Allen still a member of the Habs, one has to wonder what the picture in front of the net might look like in 2022-2023.
As Max Truman of Danslescoulisses.com reports, Georges Laraque of 91.9 Sports has received some excellent inside information in the last few days and he says Price would like to stay in Montreal. He would have no intention of lifting his no-trade clause.
All of this may be very encouraging for Habs fans, but the former big man did say that if Price stays with the team for a few more seasons, it could hurt Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's rebuilding plan.
His point is that with a goalie of Price's caliber, it's hard to finish in the bottom half of the standings and that his contract, still valid for four seasons, handcuffs the team's management with the salary cap.
In closing, Laraque suggested that after all the recent departures from the Habs, perhaps Price might change his mind and leave for an organization that will be aspiring to the big time in a year or two.
