In a few months, half of the team has been traded. (notably, Shea Weber, Artturi Lehkonen, Jeff Petry, Tyler Toffoli, Brett Kulak, Ben Chiarot, Alexander Romanov and company)
Despite all of this and despite the fact that his number one goal was to give himself some space under the NHL salary cap, Kent Hughes still needs to make a move if he wants to sign his new young center Kirby Dach.
Clearly, another trade is coming and according to Jimmy Murphy's (Montreal Hockey Now) information, the one that will be traded by the start of the 2022-23 season is most likely center Christian Dvorak.
"His name has been floating around since before the last trade deadline but I'm hearing it more and more now. I don't see how Christian Dvorak will start next season with the Habs. There is a lot of smoke right now and with such a reasonable contract, many teams, especially the top contenders, are interested. Even after his poor start last year, teams were interested. Now that he has had a good end to the season, the interest has only increased. I can say that I know of at least three teams that have discussed Dvorak with Kent Hughes more than once and I am sure there are more. I don't think Hughes necessarily wants to trade him but he needs to make room on his payroll."

Remember that Christian Dvorak was acquired less than a year ago, from the Arizona Coyotes, for a first round pick in 2022 + a second round pick in 2024.
Dvorak, 26, had 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 56 games with the CH in 2021-22. He is signed for three more seasons at $4.45 million per year.
