Last season, New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes celebrated the winning goal in an overtime game by throwing his stick into the crowd. Fans loved the celebration, especially after the incredible effort on the winning goal. But like everything, there is a time and place for every celebration.
This weekend, University of Minnesota forward Rhett Pitlick learned the importance of handling his goal celebration well. After scoring a goal to make it 2-0 in the second period, the fifth-round pick (131st overall) in the CH's 2019 draft mimicked Hughes' celebration.
Unfortunately, it wasn't on the winning goal, and honestly, it wasn't even on a very nice goal. The puck clearly deflects off a defender before beating the goalie.
Even more embarrassing? After Pitlick threw his stick into the crowd, it ended up landing in the lap of a fan of the other team. That fan promptly threw Pitlick's stick back onto the ice. The CH prospect also received a 10-minute misconduct for his embarrassing celebration.
