Georges Laraque shared some major information about Marc Bergevin's negotiations to keep the general manager in Montreal. Remember, Bergevin is in the last year of his contract and a possible contract extension does not seem impossible. However, it would not depend on Bergevin, but rather on Geoff Molson.
According to Laraque, Molson would be reluctant to pay Marc Bergevin what he is worth, despite the fact that he is an excellent general manager. He handled some big deals over the summer, including Jonathan Drouin, Jesse Ylonen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. He also replaced pieces that were lost over the summer. He was a finalist for General Manager of the Year, an honor that Laraque said was very much his due.
There is no doubt that if Molson decides not to extend Bergevin's contract, he won't be on the unemployment line for long. A lot of teams will want the services of the Montreal general manager.
