According to popular player agent Allan Walsh, this week at the NHL's GM meeting, Gary Bettman insisted on warning all head coaches in the league, especially new ones like Martin St-Louis. (and his fellow coaches)
As much as it must tempt him, especially with the disappointing quality of officiating tonight, St-Louis can't criticize the officials.
Walsh adds:
"I'm told that the NHL's consistently horrible officiating (and often missed flagrant calls) was a "hot topic" on the first day of the NHL general managers' meeting today. The NHL kicked off the discussion by reminding general managers that anyone who publicly criticizes officiating will be severely fined. #MondedeGary"
GMs (including, of course, Kent Hughes) were told to spread the word to their instructors and players.
So don't be surprised if Martin St. Louis and his men hold back in their comments about officiating between now and the end of the season.
