Last night, immediately before the official start of the Stanley Cup Final, as is the case every year, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was present at a press conference.

He first made an announcement that surprised many, an announcement he was extremely proud to make. (he had his big smile)

Bettman said that the National Hockey League finished the 2021-22 season with record profits and revenues (at least $5.2 billion, maybe more):

"Revenues of at least $5.2 billion for the 21-22 season. A record for the NHL. @TVASports" - Renaud Lavoie

The League has wasted no time in recovering from the last two very difficult years! Bettman also mentioned that the NHL is more popular than ever, in the U.S., thanks in part to the new television contracts.

However, despite this good news in terms of finances, it will still take two to three years before a significant increase in the payroll.

Speaking of the payroll, Bill Daly and Gary Bettman mentioned that they have absolutely no intention of making any changes to the famous Long Term Injured List rule, or as some call it "The Nikita Kucherov Rule".

Bettman added that the Tampa Bay Lightning never used "loopholes" in the system, but simply used good "cap management". In other words, Bettman praised their smart payroll management.
