One of the things they are trying to work on with Caufield on the Tricolore is his ability to make plays at high speed. He always slows the game down on the offensive end, which causes his legs to stop moving. What we want him to do is keep his legs moving so he doesn't lose his momentum on the play. As a bonus, we don't want him to become too predictable by being static.
"He can't become too predictable by stopping skating," said head coach Dominique Ducharme, explaining that Caufield has tended to slow down with entering the offensive zone since the beginning of the season.
Sometimes explaining to a youngster what is expected of him can have a positive impact on his game. If Caufield is able to regain the energy he had in the last few playoffs, he'll be back to his old self, which is a natural scorer. Right now, he looks lost on the ice at five-on-five and no one is able to distribute the puck to him on the power play, so his confidence level must not be at its highest.
