A few weeks ago, Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras said that Cole Caufield would score 40 goals this season with the Montreal Canadiens. Caufield is an outstanding goal scorer, there's no doubt about that, but 40 goals? WOW!
That was quite a statement from number 46 of the Ducks.
As a retort, Caufield made a monster prediction of his own about Zegras' upcoming season. He mentioned that the Ducks number 46 would score no less than 70 points if he plays all 82 games for his team this year.
Zegras has unimaginable talent, certainly, that would be quite a bit of offensive production for a youngster who has only 24 career NHL games.
Zegras will be the first center on the California roster this season, so don't expect a low point total from him. He will change the face of the Orange County organization very soon. Along with Maxime Comtois, Zegras could likely approach a point-per-game output.
This is all speculation, but it's still exciting to think about the potential scenarios for this campaign.
Remember that Caufield and Zegras are among the favorites to win the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL's rookie of the year.
