Canadiens' 2016 trade: major statement about Gary Bettman and it comes from John Scott

In 2016, Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens made a trade that was out of the ordinary, acquiring the rugged John Scott.

In connection with this transaction, Scott just made a major statement, which is directly aimed at Gary Bettman and his influence in the NHL.

Former Montreal Canadiens organization member John Scott provided some very interesting comments on a popular podcast, comments about how he was traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Montreal Canadiens.

Scott first mentioned that he already knew Marc Bergevin and that Bergevin made a confession to him. According to the former tough guy, Bergevin told him that he had no interest in acquiring him, but "that he had to do it".

"Yeah, when I got traded to Montreal, I didn't even go to Montreal, they sent me straight to St. John's. I talked to Bergevin. I knew him from Chicago, and anyway, I talked to him after the trade and he just flat out said, "John, I didn't even want you.

I just absolutely had to make this trade" and he didn't elaborate, but there was some Gary Bettman all over that trade! (original: But there was Bettman's fingers all over that trade)"

Many believe that after the NHL was, in a way, ridiculed for John Scott's presence at the 2016 All-Star Game, Gary Bettman was frustrated with the situation and wanted to make sure Scott stayed away from the NHL for the future. (by sending him to St. John's in the AHL)
