In the last few seconds, journalist Renaud Lavoie has just confirmed that we are indeed witnessing a superb turn of events concerning Mike Matheson.

The defenseman is really on his way to return to the game much sooner than expected.

This is great news, but it's also another "problem" for general manager Kent Hughes to solve.

Hughes hasn't even finished dealing with Joel Edmundson yet, and now he'll eventually have to make room in his lineup for Mike Matheson.

Remember that, to insert Edmundson in the lineup earlier this week, the Montreal Canadiens placed Evgenii Dadonov on the injured list. A temporary solution, but one that Hughes will have to deal with in the next few hours, either by completing a trade, placing a player on the injured list or sending him back to Laval.

Matheson will be added quickly.

So, if we recap, with Mike Matheson back in the lineup and Evgenii Dadonov back healthy, that's two players Hughes will have to trade, submit to waivers or send back to Laval. (to make room in the lineup)

There's some movement to come and it's promising.

As for Mike Matheson, there are obviously still steps to take, but it looks very good:

Mike Matheson's return to the ice is obviously faster than expected. He'll have to have a series of practices with his teammates before he knows when he'll be back in action." - Renaud Lavoie

Lavoie also added that Matheson wasn't supposed to skate as quickly. More details to follow!
