Ben Chiarot traded to the Maple Leafs? A TV network officially announces the trade and goes wrong

On social media, you always have to be extremely careful about what you see, and make sure you have a verified and reliable source, especially before announcing big news.

Last night, as part of the broadcast of the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning, they made a major announcement, live.

The host has officially announced the trade of Ben Chiarot (and a 3rd round pick) to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In return, the Canadians would have received: A first-round pick in 2022, as well as prospects Topi Niemela and Matthew Knies.

Problem: they relied on a fake Maple Leafs account. Chiarot is obviously still a member of the Canadians, but several fans jumped in yesterday when they heard this news, especially coming from a serious television network.

So, unfortunately some will say (due to the very interesting return), Chiarot was not traded to Toronto last night, contrary to what those watching the Penguins-Lightning game may have heard.

Here is the video in question:

Whoops!
