Many of you have asked us this question, but the answer is yes, the Montreal Canadiens still have priority and the first right to claim players from waivers.
Even if the team is currently far from the last position of the NHL's general ranking, for a few more days/weeks, last season's ranking will apply.
So, if a big name is waived in the next few days, or simply, if an interesting defenseman is waiver, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have the opportunity to acquire him immediately.
In short, you should know that today, two players are available for free: Dryden Hunt and Phil Di Giuseppe.
Hunt, 26, has one goal in three games this season with the New York Rangers. He has 41 career points in the NHL and has been very productive in the AHL.
Di Giuseppe, 29, is a former 38th overall pick of the Carolina Hurricanes. He has 53 career NHL points, including 16 goals. He too has been productive in the AHL.
Finally, please note that the Philadelphia Flyers have just claimed forward Lukas Sedlak from the Colorado Avalanche.
More details to follow!
